Assistant Professor, King’s College London
Steven Shaw is an Assistant Professor at King’s College London and a Visiting Scholar at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
He is the lead author of “Thinking—Fast, Slow, and Artificial: How AI is Reshaping Human Reasoning and the Rise of Cognitive Surrender,” and coiner of the term ‘cognitive surrender.’ His research has been cited in the United Nations’ preliminary report on AI, MIT’s report on AI in higher education, and testimony submitted to the U.S. Senate on AI and K–12 education. His work has also been covered by over 100 news outlets around the world, including The Economist, the Financial Times, the BBC, The Guardian, and The New York Times.
Broadly, his research examines the biological, psychological, and technological forces shaping decision-making and society. Prior to joining King’s, Dr. Shaw was a postdoctoral researcher at Wharton. He earned a PhD in Business Administration and an MA in Statistics from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, as well as dual BSc degrees in Animal Behavior and Genetics and Psychology from the University of Western Ontario, Canada.
