Jonas Kgomo is the Founder and Director of the Equiano Institute, an AI governance organization focused on responsible development and alignment of AI.As a research engineer with a background in Computer Science(University of Sussex) and Mathematics(Istanbul University) – his research centers around evaluating the societal impact of AI technologies, particularly in underrepresented regions. Through the Equiano institute, he works closely with international AI Safety Institures to develop technical assessment of AI capabilities in diverse cultural and societal contexts. He has worked with organizations like Cohere for AI, OpenAI, and the Alan Turing Institute, contributing to safety and evaluation projects, including initiatives on low-resource languages. Jonas is involved in broader technical AI governance and policy initiatives, including participation in plurality research at the Harvard Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation. His contributions within the network focuses on fostering inclusive AI systems and addressing the unique challenges faced by plural societies.Â
