Edward Tsoi

Co-founder, AI Safety Asia

Edward Tsoi is the co-founder of AI Safety Asia, a nonprofit dedicated to reducing catastrophic AI risks by enhancing AI safety and governance in Asia. It serves as a platform for intergenerational AI policy dialogue, connecting junior researchers and seasoned civil servants from Global South countries in Asia with senior AI safety researchers from the Global North to produce practical and region-specific AI safety policy research.


He previously led the APAC business of a late-stage startup with over 100M raised, managing the business development team and setting up the growth strategy. He is also the founder of Connecting Myanmar, a Hong Kong-based charity that has supported education and counter disinformation in Myanmar since 2011. Currently they are running a conditional cash transfer project in Myanmar with 1M Euro initial funding. He previously served on the board of Amnesty International Hong Kong advising on fundraising and engagement strategy and also advised PwC, State Street, CLSA, Nomura, Credit Suisse and Macquarie on their corporate-NGO match-making program.


He holds a Master of Laws in Human Rights with distinction from the University of Hong Kong and attended the Media Policy Summer Institute organized by the Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, Oxford.
